Allen Hall Alumni Association aims to promote lifelong friendships and networking between former residents and friends of Allen Hall through social events and regular communications, whilst striving to establish contact with as many former residents as possible.
The idea of forming a long-term Association came about as preparations were being made to celebrate the Hall’s fiftieth anniversary, with what turned out to be a hugely successful reunion weekend on 3 – 4 September 2011.
There was a sense amongst the organisers that this should mark the beginning of a sustained drive to rekindle the links between Allen Hall and its 4000+ strong network of former residents, wardens, tutors and others. The reunion offered a vital starting point for beginning to reconnect with thousands of alumni based all over the world.
As it stands, the Association is currently being administered by a small but committed working party of Allen Hall alumni. In the new year we will be reaching out to those people who have already volunteered to take an influential role in the running of the Association. Some attended a short meeting held on the Sunday of the reunion weekend. Others have contacted us by letter or email since then to offer the benefit of their skills and experience. There has already been talk of establishing a London-based chapter of the Association.
The first substantial project undertaken has been the launch of an Allen Hall E-Newsletter which aims to keep alumni in touch with the latest goings on at Allen Hall, promote upcoming events and share the success stories of our former residents. The first issue is being distributed to the hundreds of people who were in attendance during the fiftieth anniversary celebrations or those who could not be there in person but sent their good wishes and expressed enthusiasm towards the prospect of an Alumni Association being formed which would take a lead on organising further events in the near future.
The e-newsletter links to our new website at allenhallalumni.wordpress.com which we hope to update on a regular basis with news, feature articles, memories and photographs. The e-newsletter will be sent out on a quarterly basis from now on – which means that issue two will be hitting your inbox sometime in late March/early April 2013– watch this space!
Over the coming months and years your support will be vital. The challenge of re-connecting with our network of alumni is a considerable one – and you can help to make it happen.
Spread the word about Allen Hall Alumni Association as far and wide as you can, ensure that you forward our e-newsletter and a link to this website to as many of your ex-Allen Hall friends as possible. Be imaginative – why not include the web link in your Christmas cards or in a text message?
Follow our Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn groups and encourage all of your contacts to do the same.
What’s more, we’re looking for people to actively contribute to our website and future e-newsletters by sending in their announcements, photographs or feature articles recalling your fondest memories of your time spent at Allen Hall.
Perhaps you and your future husband or wife first met at Allen Hall – if so we want to hear from you!
Here are just a few suggestions as to the kinds of things you might wish to contribute:
- Ideas for feature articles to include in future editions of the newsletter / on the website (or feature articles written by yourself)
- Photographs from your time at Allen Hall. Tell us who’s in the photograph(s) and in what year(s) they were taken
- Scans of old copies of ‘The Allenian’ newsletter
- Announcements such as births and marriages
- Your success stories – so that we can run feature articles about alumni who have forged successful careers or had extraordinary experiences
- Your memories of Allen Hall life in days gone by which could be included in an online ‘Memories Board’
- Anything else that you think might be of interest!
Send your contributions to email@example.com.
We apologise for taking such a long time to get things moving in the aftermath of the reunion – but we are very optimistic that 2013 will be a landmark year in the sure-to-be exciting life and times of Allen Hall Alumni Association.
